So, the majority of the day went by before I realized its significance. It took a reminder from my tumblr feed to get me to realize that today would have been the 97th birthday of the King of Comics, Jack Kirby.
I think it's fair to say that I owe EVERYTHING to Mr. Kirby. His comics are a constant source of inspiration; I can't seem to do a sketch without a little crackle here and there. Reading comics drawn and written by Kirby taught me to go big or go home. Hell, comics would more than likely have died a death many moons ago without Jack and (arguably) Stan doing what they did in the day.
I don't mark the passage of Jack's death, because I'd rather celebrate his life. That being said, I agree with Dave Wyndorf of Monster Magnet when he sang "I thought the world should have cried on the day Jack Kirby died" on the song "Melt" off the "God Says No" album.
So, Happy Birthday Jack. We miss you.
