As I have done the last two years, I am taking part in the 30 Days of Characters challenge this year. This is the twenty-first entry for this year.
The Ballad of Cryptkeeper, Part 3
(Part 1 Part 2)
Jerry Winter was a consummate frontman. He knew how to play the crowd, he was attractive, he had a crooning voice that could turn into a haunting snarl at a moment's notice. And he had a seemingly never-ending line of groupies in his bed.
On the 15th of March, 1983, Jerry was found dead in his apartment. He had been shot twice at point-blank range in the back of his head.
The police were never able to find a viable suspect.
In the time since the murder, all manner of conspiracies have arisen.
Some say that it was a message from one of the crime families (probably the Giovanni family) to then Lieutenant Thomas Winter (Jerry's uncle) to back off.
Some say it was a super devoted fan who felt betrayed that the band was "selling out".
Some say it was a jealous girlfriend.
Following the funeral, the band debated going forward. They decided it was time to end it.
Over the years, a somewhat popular meme has developed: graffiti asking "Who Killed Jerry?"
Rumor has it that Jerry has at least three illegitimate children...
